A.J. Tomlinson (1865-1943) was one od the most important leaders of early Pentecostalism. A former traveling Bible salesman, Tomlinson became the leader of a holiness group in Camp Creek, Tennessee (known as the Church of God), which was the forerummer of several contemporary Pentecostal denominations. Robin's biography of Tomlinson's life story offers a compelling narrative thorugh which Robins sheds new light on the roots of some of the twentieth century's most vigorous popular religious movements.
