Distracted and beguiled by his beautiful Egyptian lover, and thrown into fierce opposition with his co-ruler Octavian, Antony's trust in Cleopatra is tested to the limit, as she vacillates between loving and callous, spoiled and majestic, in her love for him and quest for power. As loyalties are exposed and tumultuous rivalries are fought out, Antony and Cleopatra features some of the most linguistically rich and dramatically tense scenes of any of Shakespeare's plays.
