England has been invaded by Martians as an unnamed narrator travels through the suburbs of London. One of the first novels depicting a battle between mankind and an alien race, the fight for earth rages with no apparent end to the destruction it leaves in its wake. War of the Worlds is one of the great science fiction novels.
