Zapiski vrachya

"Zapiski vrachya" ("Notes of a doctor") - the most famous book by a remarkable Russian writer Vikenty Veresaev (1867-1945), belonging to a brilliant galaxy of writing doctors in the history of Russian literature. Although the medical community generally not approved this story, published in 1910 and had caused a wave of critical discussions, it had fantastic success. The book has stood the 12 editions during the life of the author and has been translated into most European languages. Veresaev analyzes the psychological difficulties of the young doctor and reveals his doubts about the viability of the Russian medicine. Like Chekhov and Bulgakov, the main hero of this work is trying to overcome the difficulties, which are going to result in despair, trying to hold in the limits of moral and professional boundaries. Issues raised by Veresaev were - a mismatch of the challenges and opportunities of medical science, an observance of moral obligations to patients and important today as in the past century.
